David J. Negron is a film illustrator and storyboard artist who worked in Hollywood from the early 1970s until the late 2000s. He is known for his work on Hello, Dolly! (1969), Raiders of the Lost Ark: Holy Grail (1981), Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), and Jurassic Park (1993). His artwork laid the groundwork for directors and producers to enter and give life to the paintings and sketches he created. It is said that some of his work hangs in the house of Steven Spielberg.

Doctor Dolittle

In the late 1960s Negron was hired to contribute concept artwork for the classic musical, Hello, Dolly!. His paintings inspired grand creations on the Fox Studio lot. One such painting paved the way for a rather large scene in which a grand parade was filmed.

The Oscar winning comedy Doctor Dolittle spawned a number of remakes and sequels. This version starred the legendary Rex Harrison whose likeness can be seen clearly in one of the concept paintings for this film. The film features tropical seaside sets, English village sets, and and scenes filmed on a boat at sea.

1970

During the 1970s, Negron produced art for King Kong (1978) and Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1976). Both films are renowned for their advancements in special effects.

1980

During the 1980s, Negron’s work comprised of a number of films including Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Inner Space (1988), and Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life is Calling (1986). The work from Raiders of the Lost Ark was very preliminary, but the style seems to have been influential on the final film.
